Despite the relative commonplace reality of day-to-day e-commerce, some people are still wary about buying some items online. Identity theft, mismanaged shipments, incorrectly-charged-merchandise, and failure to deliver can all be concerns when ordering items from a less-well-known web storefronts.
This is especially true when it comes to wallets. With so many expensive offerings, boutique storefronts, and online (especially overseas) merchants, how can you know which websites are safe to shop on, and which should be avoided?
That’s what we’ll take a look at in this blog post. We’ll look at how to make sure you’re buying your merchandise from a retailer that is safe, reliable, and will deliver.
Before you buy wallets online: Look at reviews of the company
If you’re interested in purchasing a wallet from a company directly from their website, make sure to check out reviews of the company, and the experiences of others who have purchased merchandise from their store, by Googling the company and looking for people who have done the same thing that you have.
According to Wikipedia, reviews are an important factor to influence customer behavior when shopping online. That is no rocket-science. Why would you buy a product from a company with bad reviews?
Know what you’re buying
Often, smaller websites have fewer pictures, descriptions, and reviews of the products that they’re selling. In this case, more information can usually be found by looking up the product name online. Also, since many wallets are sold across dozens of online storefronts, you might find a better price!
This is a good idea to do especially if you’re considering the purchase of items from a smaller shop. If you can’t find the information you want about the product you’re buying, consider emailing the “help” staff of the storefront. They’re usually happy to answer any questions you might have about their products, as well as clearing up any questions you might have about their return policy. Speaking of which…
Know the return policy (or lack thereof)
This is important, because many smaller webshops simply don’t have a return policy. You order what you order, and when you get it, it’s yours. If you don’t like it, don’t want it, or don’t need it, there’s often no recourse, making shopping from these smaller stores a gamble. You’ll want to make sure that the webstores you’re shopping on have a clear return policy, so that you’ll know what to do if something goes wrong.
Find larger stores to buy a wallet online
This one is simple – the larger an online store is, the better the service it will provide – at least overall. This is because larger stores are more likely to have a dedicated support staff, faster shipping, and other features that smaller boutique web stores simply cannot afford to have.
In addition, these larger stores often sell the same products that smaller stores do, and sometimes even for a lower price. This is not always the case, but generally the larger an online store is, the safer you can feel when shopping there. This is why we often recommend shopping for wallets on Amazon.com – you can’t find a bigger, more consistent, or safer marketplace online.
When in doubt, go to Amazon (or another large e-commerce retailer)
Online shopping, especially for wallets, has become much easier in recent years, given the popularity of easy-to-use, reliable platforms such as Shopify and other e-commerce websites such as Etsy, eBay, and others. Whereas online shopping was the “wild west” ten or fifteen years ago, most web stores these days function efficiently, quickly, and have great support, and you’ll only ever encounter problems in maybe 5% or less of online shopping cases.
Still, if you’re ever having doubts about the legitimacy of a website that you’re considering buying a wallet from, we’ve got to recommend using a larger website like Amazon. Safety, consistency, ease-of-use, and great support make it these large, well-known storefronts great places to go wallet shopping if you’ve got any concerns about products on other websites.
